In Case You Were Wondering, 2 Million Bikers Did Not Come to DC for 9/11

A few weeks ago, the American Muslim Political Action Committee announced that they were going to hold a "Million Muslim March" on the National Mall in Washington, DC on the 12th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001. The stated intent of the rally, which later was renamed the "March Against Fear," was to raise awareness of the treatment and public image of Muslims in America. As it turned out, the rally included about !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

However, as soon as the conservative world got wind of this impending attack on all that is Holy in America, plans were set in motion to bring not one, but two million God-fearing, motorcycle-riding patriots to DC to defend us all from the dangerous and blasphemous words spewed from the lips of dirty non-Christians on our most Holy of national days of honor and patriotism, Independence Day Memorial Day Veterans Day Pearl Harbor Day D-Day 9/11.

A few weeks before the motorcycle rally would descend on DC, a group applied for a no-stop permit for a ride through the Nation's Capital. That permit request was denied. Apparently, DC's municipalities thought that the traffic was bad enough already and/or that they didn't have the resources available to manage a relatively last-minute request to grind the city's streets to a halt so a bunch of bikers could pat each other on the back for being real Americans. Of course, the real reason, according to Conservative circles, was obviously because the government loves Muslims more than patriots (and you can't be both).

So, with new resolve, DC was told by !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and their Facebook fans to brace for the impact of two million motorcycles and the gridlocked traffic that would surely result.

According to several conservative media outlets and some of my zealous Facebook friends, 800K to 1M bikers showed up in DC to defend America.

I work two blocks from the National Mall. I am outside a fair amount. I drove to work at 8am in rush hour traffic and home at 4:30pm in rush hour traffic down the length of the National Mall each way. I saw three motorcycles. Three.

So, despite the Facebook posts about inspiring patriots standing up to evil Muslims, the whole thing was a bust. Less than two dozen pro-Muslim activists showed up and an undetermined amount of bikers showered a few tourism dollars on our fair city. Overall, I would call it an embarrassment for both groups.

The only thing that I feel the need to set straight is the gross exaggeration of motorcycle presence in DC. We didn't get 800,000 bikers in DC. We didn't get one million. We certainly didn't get two million. While I'm certain that larger groups passed through the city while I was indoors and it's possible that many just happened to not come near me or my office, there simply weren't as many bikers as the conservative media was suggesting. In fact, most of the post-event pictures weren't even taken in DC.

For reference, the first Inauguration of President Obama saw about 1.8M visitors. Most of them were not on motorcycles; they were just here. For days before and after the event, it was painfully obvious that a that many additional pedestrians were in the city, since the population is less than 650,000.

So, as much fun as it is to pat your com patriots on the back for having the guts and gas money to stand up to twenty Muslims, I'd say that this Facebook fodder had all the meaningful content as most of the crap that your uncle posts on Facebook.

There were two million bikers there for sure, they just weren't counting them properly. They should have been counting bikes on trailers behind pickup trucks, SUVs and motorhomes.

I thought Political posts were recently frowned upon... Yet, here we have a political post masquerading as a non-political post because it's loosely associated with Motorcycles... Keep Oppo car related... I see enough political BS on Facebook, and it's the last thing I want to see on Oppo.

I noticed all the Rolling Thunder pics, as well as the one from Sturgis. People will tweet and post anything. I myself started tweeting pics from my past Rolling Thunder events to see if anyone would use them.

I thought the name of the group "2 Million Bikes to DC" was a clever name. I can't tell you how many times I saw the name without the quotes - assuming people thought there were actually two million bikers.

I work in L'Enfant, and didn't see a single bike. I have friends that work near the MCI center and near the Ronald Regan building who said they saw quite a bit.

Was it a bust? Yeah. The "Million American March" was pitiful, and so was the Bike group. I do think the bikers outnumbered the "Million Americans" by at least 50:1

After reading the fine print on the America Muslim Political Action Committee's website and reading all the tweets about #2MBIKERS hashtag I have only one thing to say about this.

Both sides are filled with extremist nutjobs. I take no sides.

That's sort of the beauty of this: you don't have to take a side.

yeah keep oppo car-related along with banning all the other news (CO floods), anime posts, video game posts, music video posts, etc.

C'mon man, it's oppo, plus this post is mainly satire. We don't just talk about cars on oppo...
